We discovered the cheapest way to visit the Dominican Republic. We collaborate with a real estate agent, Beatriz Gonzales. She spent a day with us and showed us the cheapest way to visit the Island.
A view from the patio of another condo in the same complexBeatriz took us to the beautiful little town of Bavaro. Bavaro is about 20 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. The beaches look like someone poured sugar next to the ocean. Simply the best Cheap-Dominican-Republic vacation we can find! There are condo's there that you can rent by the month. The cost is anywhere from $900. to $2000. USD. They are completely furnished. One two or three bedrooms. Some of the condo's have an ocean view. Of course the closer you get to the beach the more they will cost you. All of the condo's are walking distance to the beach. We were in every one of these condo's. The furnishings are simply great. Some have a washer and dryer. There are washers and dryers in all the buildings for your use if you condo doesn't have them. Simply a great way to enjoy a cheap-Dominican-Republic vacation. Everything you need is within walking distance. A nice little market, fine restaurants, bars, night spots and of course the beach. All the condo's are gated with 24 hour security. A great way to spend a Cheap-Dominican-Republic vacation!
Bavaro Condo without ocean viewOur 2 week stay at Dreams Punta Cana Resort, including airfare cost $5200. USD. Of course this is an all-inclusive resort. We didn't have to cook our food, and we were treated like royalty. This is not important to some folks. We have already made plans with a couple here at home to rent one of these condo's for the month on January 2011. We will each stay for 2 weeks. The condo we are renting has an ocean view. We are paying $1500. USD to rent it for that month. We pay half and they pay half. If you do the math that's less that $54. USD a day. Our plan is to have breakfast in the condo and have dinner out each evening, with lunch as we see fit. We believe it will be about half the price we paid for the resort. And when you give it some thought, we are not giving up all that much. While at the resort most of your time is spent at the beach or at the pool. (All the condo's have pools by the way). And you can't take a cooler of drinks to the beach at the resort. (You have to constantly go to the bar for your drinks or wait for the girl to come by to order a drink). We will pack a cooler to bring to the beach while staying in the condo. In the evening we will have our dinner at one of the local restaurants. We absolutely love the resorts we have stayed at in the Punta Cana area and I'm sure we will go back from time to time. However if we do this condo thing we will be able to afford another vacation in the same year. And that sounds absolutely fantastic to me.
