If it’s seafood you crave, 99.9% of the seafood is fresh. Most of the seafood was caught on the day you eat it. That’s as fresh as it gets. Dominican-Republic-Restaurants have the best seafood.
The Santo Domingo Restaurants are the best on the Island and compare with the best in the Caribbean. We have eaten many meals in Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and the only bad meal we had was at the Ocean Blue resort. The Ocean Blue does not have a great Dominican-Republic-Restaurant.
The restaurants that most of the tourists go to have mediocre fare and they are over priced. The service isn’t that good either. Steer clear of the Colonial zone.
The few fine dining options have lowered their prices and they are starting to offer a daily special that is priced around $10. to $12... You will enjoy great service and the surroundings will be luxurious.
The local crowd usually dress for dinner and they eat late, about 9:00 to 9:30 is when they just drifting in for dinner.
Some of the best Dominican specialties include, fried cheese, a thick stew usually made with 5 different kinds of meat and served with rice and avocado, rice and beans with fried chicken parts, fresh fish with coconut sauce, just to name a few.
You will find shacks and stands selling cheap food, however, you want to steer clear of these. The best local beer is Presidente. The most popular rum among the Dominicans is Brugal. The aged Barcelo rum is as smooth as cognac.
The restaurants in Santo Domingo are more formal than in the resorts. Trousers for the men and dresses for the women. You will not have to wear a tie; however, you may be required to wear a jacket in some of the finer restaurants.
