Melia-Caribe Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

Melia-Caribe is very huge. They have 2 means of transportation to help you get around the resort. If you upgrade to Royal Service you will have access to a golf cart. That is not to say that you will have your own golf cart. Someone will drive you. Those who do not upgrade will have to take the train that takes over 20 minutes to go through the resort

The grounds at Melia-Caribe are absolutely beautiful. I think the gardens are the most spectacular of all the resorts on the Island. You will be amazed at the care that they give to the garden area. You will see no less than 20 different workers caring for the gardens.

Melia-Caribe has many spectacular features of witch the beach is not the least. If is simply unbelievable. Being on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Island you are presented with some very nice white-cap waves.

You will have your choice of over 12 restaurants. Some of the restaurants require business casual for men and slacks or skirts and dresses for the girls.

If you can be lucky enough to visit each restaurant you will feel like you have taken a trip around the world.

Just across the street there is a fine golf course for your enjoyment. I’ve played the course and you will be impressed with the fairways. There isn’t much rough so you will not be spending much time looking for you golf ball.

I can only say one bad thing about the one time I played there. We did get behind some people that really took there good old time. It took us a little more than 5 hours to play 18 holes.

The full service Casino is just accross the street from Melia-Caribe. I’ve been to many resorts that have Casinos. Most of them do not have all the games that the full service Casino has. The Casino is not on the resort. However, a very short shuttle ride will get you there.

The fresh water pools at Melia-Caribe are impressive. You won’t have to worry about getting there early to stake out your claim to a certain area. There are plenty of certain areas so to speak. The resort is large enough that you will never feel crowded.

If you walk to any of these places it will take you a while and you may be tired when you arrive. It is best to take the shuttle train or as I mentioned before, if you have upgraded to Royal service you will have someone pick you up in a golf cart.

We didn’t have any children with us at Melia-Caribe; however, I did notice that the children have plenty to keep them happy. I think the kids will be pleasantly surprised with what they find.

The ride from Punta Cana international airport to Melia-Caribe is less than 20 minutes. A little bumpy but not a long ride. The roads are not the best I have traveled on. Do book your transportation from the airport to the resort and back before you leave home. If there is an extra cost it will be worth it.

I have found two reviews of Melia-Caribe to share with you. I wanted to give you another view of the resort from someone else other than me.

We just returned from 5 nights at the Melia Caribe Tropical. While the property is beautiful and well maintained, it is very spacious and the activities (pools, beach, restaurants, and casino) are not within walking distance. We were told there was a "train" that could take us around the property; I envisioned the train in Disney World. It was more like a train from a kiddie’s park that traveled at 5 mph. It took 15-20 minutes to completely circle the property. If you upgrade to the "Royal Service" you will be driven around the property via golf carts -- I would highly recommend this option. The sleeping room was nice; however, the plumbing in the bathroom is horrible...also wash cloths are not provided and the hotel is extremely "stingy" with bath towels. The pools and beach are beautiful. The food was very good; a large selection and variety of items for everyone's taste. We only booked one 'ala carte' dinner and were disappointed in the portion size, so we went to the all-you-can-eat buffets instead. The atmosphere in the main dining room is very casual; no need to dress up for dinner. I was also surprised that most of the hotel staff does not speak English; even the simplest things (i.e., black coffee, diet soda) were difficult to communicate. Overall, we had a nice time and would go back -- but only by booking the "Royal Service." My husband and I just returned from the Melia Caribe. We stayed from June 27 to July 4. We opted for the Royal Service because it sounded fantastic, what a waste of money. First, the grounds were beautiful and the food was good. I researched the property for six months before our vacation so I knew what to expect. This resort is very family oriented. During our stay there were many obnoxious children in the Royal Service pool area. There were also many large groups of families. I wouldn't recommend the resort for couples. The Royal Service did not have any pluses at all. Our room was mediocre. It was very outdated. We had three bugs in our room. Anytime we went to the VIP area to ask questions the help was so busy talking to each other they didn't seem like they wanted to be bothered. We called the evening before our flight back to Ohio to arrange to have our luggage picked up but they told us to call in the morning. We called in the morning and they weren't open yet. Golf transportation can only be arranged every hour. My husband had to walk back from the golf course with his clubs because Royal Service doesn't pick you up. We didn't see any plus in Royal Service.

We usually stay at Iberostar Lindo or the Grand and this place couldn't compare. It was a waist of money.

I would recommend this place only to families because they did have a nice children's area. This is not a quiet or romantic resort. If you are going on your first all inclusive you will most likely enjoy the resort
