Packing for your Vacation

Kay in Atlantic Ocean at Dreams Punta Cana

By Amy Howell

Punta Cana packing. With airlines cracking down on the size and weight of carry on luggage and many carriers charging $10 to $25 each direction to check a second bag, frequent fliers and those in the travel industry are studying the art of being more efficient. These packing tips will help you.

Here are some tips on how to minimize luggage while maximizing its capacity.

Plan!!

Stop and think about your activities and the weather. Lay out what you plan to take to see what’s essential and what can be left home. Make a list and stick to it.

Coordinate

When you're getting ready choose two or three clothing colors and get different looks with a minimal number of pieces. Take a few pairs of neutral pants and one neutral jacket or cardigan.Accessories such as scarves, tights, belts and jewelry can spice up outfits and take up little room in a suitcase.

Roll, Fold, Fill Holes

Roll underwear, T-shirts and PJ’s, which takes less space than folding. Inter-fold dress clothes over dress clothes to help save space and eliminate wrinkles. Fit underwear and T-shirts into crevices in your bag, and stuff socks and jewelry into shoes.

Compartmentalize

Put underwear and socks in zip-top bags and press the air out. Or use mesh bags for undergarments, so if you’re stopped at a security check-point, officials can see the contents without unloading the bag.

Limit Shoes

Most travelers can survive with dress shoes, casual shoes and walking shoes.

Rent or Borrow

See if tennis racquets or golf clubs are available for rent or can be borrowed at your destination.

I learned most of this the hard way. I guarantee that these little tips and tricks will help you a lot.

Whenever I go out of the country I put my passport and plan tickets in a clear plastic container and carry them with me at all times. I always wear a sport coat when traveling because of the inside pockets.

If you are going to a resort put your important papers (Passport, Tickets) in the room safe or at the desk in a safety deposit box.

If you know any tips for packing that I don't have here use the Contact Us page to let me know and I'll include them.
