The Condado Neighborhood in San-Juan

Beautiful Place

For those of you that plan to visit San-Juan, Puerto Rico we have some recommendations for you.

The following story was taken in part from an article by James Patrick Herman published in Travel & Leisure magazine.

Roberto Trevino says, “People who think it’s all about rice and bean will be surprised.” He was speaking of the Condado neighborhood in San Juan.

Trevino has chosen the Condado neighborhood to open the Asia-Latin restaurant Budatai, (1056 Ashford Ave. 787/725-6919, dinner for two $125) Locals fill it nightly.

Nearby, also on Ashford Ave. is Ummo Argentinean Grill, (787/722-1700; dinner for two $60). Carnivores go for the parrillada, a savory selection of chorizo, pork tenderloin, short ribs, sweetbreads, and blood sausage (the faint of heart can opt for the fresh grilled vegetables).

The Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino is also on Ashford. The Strip House restaurant serves up T-bones in a boudoir-inspired setting. Get a room for about $179.

Ashland Ave also has the recently renovated, historic La Concha Hotel. The owners spent $220 million on renovations. This is where you will find Perla, a seafood restaurant. (Dinner for two $112).

As you can see Ashford Ave. is Condado’s answer to Rodeo Drive, with designers like Lisa Cappalli and Nono Maldonado as well as all the other major fashion players. .
