Our Santo Domingo Tour

You will enjoy this tour of Santo Domingo! We had a lot of fun. You will need to be prepared if you have a problem with motion sickness. It’s a long ride.

There is some great scenery along the way If you’re into history you will want to take this tour.

The city is very modern, however, it still has some of the original history.

I’ll give you an overview of our trip to Santo Domingo.

Before you leave, here are a few suggestions. Of course you will want to take the camera. You will be doing some walking so wear comfortable shoes.

I would also tell the women to not take there purse. Kay has what she calls a fannie-bag. She wears it around her waist. You will probably buy something while you’re there. The least you have to carry the better.

A large bus will come to your resort to get you early in the morning for your trip to Santo Domingo. It will stop at a couple more resorts before you get on the road.

About half way there you will make a pit stop. There will be cold drinks snacks and also clean restrooms.

As I mentioned above, there is some great scenery along the way. You may want to take some photos of a few things.

There was a beautiful Chapel in one of the small towns you go through. We tried to get them to stop but the guide said that is another tour. We were able to snap a photo.

Upon your arrival at Santo Domingo you take a short walk to the museum. They will take you through a castle where the son of Christopher Columbus lived while on the Island.

Some of the original furnishings are still there. There are also some very good Portriats, Columbus and his son, the Queen, etc.

Upon leaving there you will be taken to the oldest Church in the new world. Have your camera ready, you will want to take photos. The place is absolutely beautiful.

When you leave the Church it’s lunch time. They will steer you to the Hard Rock Café. Your lunch is included in the price of the tour. If you want to go someplace else to eat you may do that.

After lunch you will be given about 2 hours free time. Again, they will steer you to certain stores. I believe they get a kick back for doing this. I bought a couple of Cuban cigars.

Bargain with them on the price of the cigars. I paid $6. per for mine.

Again, you may go out on your own. Be sure you know where the bus will be leaving from. After your free time you will be boarding the bus for your departure from Santo Domingo.

If you’re thinking that the ride back is nap time you are exactly right. At least that’s what I did. You will stop at the same place on the way back.

You smokers will want to get off the bus at these stops. I didn’t see anyone smoking on the bus, however, there were a lot of people smoking when we stopped.
