Saona Island Day Trip

Sandbar off Saona Island
The wife and I spent a week at Dreams Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic. We took our 2 teenage daughters with us.
They have what they call the Explorers Club for young children and teenagers. They will keep them busy with activities for 12 hours if you like.
We wanted to go on a day trip however; the girls didn’t want to go. So we signed them up with the Explorers Club and booked a trip to Saona Island.
Punta-Cana-Sunshine.com has offered this opportunity to share our trip with those of you that travel to the Dominican Republic.
Our trip started with a bus picking us up at our resort about 9:00 AM. Our resort is on the Atlantic side of the Island and Saona is on the Caribbean side. The bus ride wasn’t bad at all, it took only 25 minutes.
As soon as we got off the bus there was a lady that took individual pictures of all the couples. More about this later.
We boarded a speedboat for our ride to the Island. That was really a fun ride.
We were about 2 miles from the Island when the boat stopped. They told us we could get out of the boat and walk around because we were on a sandbar. Most of us got out. They served us all rum drinks while we were in the water.
After that we landed on Saona Island. What a beautiful beach. The water is much calmer on the Caribbean side of the Dominican Republic.
We spent about 3 hours on the Island, swimming, sunbathing, getting dance lesson and having a great hot meal. Of course drinks were served at no charge.
We were transferred back on a Catamaran. It was a slower trip back. But no one was in a hurry. They had music, a place to dance, a place to sunbath. Drinks were also served at no extra charge.
When we returned to the place where our bus was we found out why they took our photo when we arrived. They had bottles of rum with our photo as the label. The charge was only $12. Yes, we bought ours; we have it on the mantle at home. A great conversation piece. Of course you didn’t have to buy it if you didn’t want to.
That’s our trip to Saona Island. We would recommend this trip to anyone that goes to the Dominican Republic.
