We just had to hear more about this trip. After a good dinner we settled down for some questions and answers. Following is our conversation. Q: How does a river cruise through Europe differ from a traditional land trip through Europe? A: The difference is like night and day. The rivers of Europe helped shape the whole of Europe. Sailing on the rivers of Europe gives the traveler a unique look at the culture and heritage of the continent. On a river cruise you are able to stop at the river port cities. The experience can be much more intimate. Q: How would you compare traveling through Europe on a river cruise to the traditional land tour? A: On a river cruise you only have to unpack once. You don’t have to worry about getting from point A to point B in a foreign land. On a river cruise you wake up in a different port every morning. And when you get off the boat you’re right in town. At every port city there is an excursion included in the price. You learn about the culture and the native people from the tour guide. After the tour has ended you have time to venture out on your own to meet and greet the native people. The crew has a hand in making the trip so much more interesting with onboard activities that coincide with each port city. Even the food and beverages offered each day onboard are native to the port of call. Before the cruise boat leaves in the evening some of the locals will come aboard for some native song and dance. Q: Was the vessel you were on as good as the big cruise ships? A: The boat and the staterooms were comparable to a five-star European hotel. The crew was all English speaking and there were only 120 passengers aboard. They have a lounge area, a sun deck and even an exercise area. They have one large dinning area. The seating is open. Dress is casual for all meals. We had a captain’s dinner and a couple cocktail parties.
